How to Prepare for Your Trial & Wedding Day

Tip 01
Bring the whole picture to your trial. Bring your veil, hair accessories, inspiration photos, and a photo of your dress if you have one. The best hair and makeup decisions are made in context, not in isolation.
Tip 02
Use your trial to test the look, not just see it. Whenever possible, schedule your trial before bridal portraits, a fitting, or another event. You will see how the look photographs, wears, and feels over several hours.
Tip 03
Follow your artist’s prep instructions. Clean versus day-old hair depends on your texture, scalp, and chosen style. Your artist will tell you when to wash, what products to avoid, and how to arrive so your hair is ready to work with.
Tip 04
Wear something that opens in the front. A button-up, zippered top, or robe lets you change without pulling clothing over finished hair and makeup.
Tip 05
Build breathing room into the morning. Hair and makeup should finish before you need to dress, take photographs, or leave for the ceremony. We plan the schedule backward from your ready time so the morning does not feel rushed.
Tip 06
Tell us about changes early. A new haircut, extensions, a different veil, added services, or a larger wedding party can affect the plan. The earlier we know, the easier it is to adjust timing and staffing.

Bridal, answered honestly

Do I need a bridal trial?
We strongly recommend one. A trial gives us time to test the shape, finish, comfort, and staying power of your hair and makeup before the wedding day. It also gives you a chance to make adjustments without the pressure of a wedding-day schedule.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as you can, especially for spring and fall weddings or larger bridal parties. Popular Saturdays can book many months in advance. Once your date, location, and approximate party size are known, we can help you plan the next steps.
Can you do hair and makeup for the entire wedding party?
Yes. We can accommodate brides, attendants, mothers, and other guests depending on party size, timing, and artist availability. Larger parties may require multiple artists so everyone is finished on schedule.
Do you offer on-site wedding services?
No. All wedding hair and makeup happens at The Junction Salon & Bar in downtown Raleigh, including full bridal parties in our private glass room.
How long does wedding hair and makeup take?
About an hour to an hour and a half per service. Timing depends on the service and the look. Bridal hair and makeup usually receive more time than attendant services, and larger parties require a carefully planned schedule. We build the timeline backward from when everyone needs to be dressed, photographed, and ready to leave.
Should I bring inspiration photos?
Yes, and it helps to send them ahead of time. Bring photos of looks you like, but also tell us what you don’t like. Inspiration helps us understand the direction, but the final plan should still work with your hair, features, dress, veil, accessories, and how you want to feel on the day.
Can you work with extensions, veils, and hair accessories?
Yes. Please let us know in advance if you plan to wear extensions, a veil, combs, pins, flowers, or other accessories. Some extensions need to be fitted, colored, or prepared before the wedding day.
What if my hair is very fine, short, curly, or difficult to style?
That is exactly why the consultation and trial matter. We plan around your actual hair rather than forcing it into a style that only works in a photograph. We will be honest about what is realistic and recommend adjustments, preparation, or extensions when they will improve the result.
Should I arrive with clean hair and no makeup?
Ideally, hair should be washed the day before. In general, we want hair and skin properly prepared, not overloaded with product. If you need it washed the day of, add a blowout service to your appointment. It adds an additional hour to the updo or styling service.
Will my hair and makeup last all day?
Wedding styling is designed for longevity, but weather, humidity, hair texture, skin type, and physical activity all matter for the duration. We use professional preparation and finishing techniques, and we will help you choose a style that is realistic for the conditions of your wedding day.
Can I change my look after the trial?
Yes. The trial is part of the planning process. Small adjustments are normal. If you decide on a completely different direction, another trial may be recommended so there are no surprises on the wedding day.
What happens if my wedding-day schedule changes?
Let us know as soon as possible. Changes to start times, locations, party size, or services can affect staffing and the entire timeline. We will always try to help, but late changes may not be possible once the day has been fully scheduled.
