How to care for curls at home

1
Prep
Saturate your hair fully before washing, anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes. Properly soaked hair uses far less product and holds moisture better.
2
Cleanse
Work your cleanser into a lather in your palm with a few drops of water before applying, so it distributes evenly without stealing moisture. Clarify periodically.
3
Condition
Do not wring the water out after rinsing. Apply conditioner, add water, then detangle with your fingers or a wet brush, squishing gently from ends to roots.
4
Style
Apply styling products in the shower so your hair keeps its water. Layer as needed. Fine hair can shed a little water for firmer hold; coarse hair should keep as much as possible.
5
Plop and dry
Wrap your hair in a microfiber towel to wick water without disrupting curls, 10 to 45 minutes depending on texture. Then diffuse on low heat or air dry, and do not touch until set.
6
Sleep
Protect your set with a satin or silk bonnet, or a satin pillowcase at minimum. For length, pineapple loosely into a soft topknot with a gentle scrunchie.
7
Refresh
Revive curls without rewashing. Mist with water or dampen your hands and pet the hair to reactivate product. Add a little product and water if you need more hold, then diffuse briefly.
8
Deep condition
Deep condition regularly. Clarify first to clear residue, then apply for about 20 minutes. Heat from a thermal cap or steamer helps it penetrate.

Before you book

Curly hair, answered honestly

Do you cut curly hair wet or dry?
It depends on your curl type and the result we are after. Some textures are best cut dry so we can see exactly how the curl falls and shapes itself. Others benefit from a wet cut. Your stylist will choose the approach during your consultation and explain why.
Why does my hair get frizzy when I touch it while drying?
As your styling products set, they form a barrier that holds hydration in and keeps frizz out. Touching the hair before that barrier cures disrupts it and lets moisture escape unevenly. Let the product fully set before touching, scrunching, or separating curls.
What is plopping and should I do it?
Plopping wraps your hair in a towel that supports the curls while wicking away water, without the friction that causes frizz. Most curl types benefit. Timing matters: fine hair around 10 to 15 minutes, medium 20 to 30, coarse 30 to 45.
How do I refresh my curls between wash days?
Refreshing reactivates the product already in your hair without washing again. Start with water: mist or dampen your hands and gently pet the hair. If you need more hold, mix a little styling product with a few drops of water and reapply, then diffuse briefly to cure.
Can curly hair be colored safely?
Yes, with the right approach. Curly hair tends to be drier and more porous, so color can process differently. Our specialists account for this with the right formula, timing, and protective treatments to keep your curl pattern intact throughout.
Will a silk press damage my curls?
A silk press done correctly on healthy hair, with the right heat protectant and technique, should not permanently alter your curl pattern. The key is healthy hair, controlled heat, and not switching back and forth too frequently. Your stylist will assess your hair before any thermal service.
What curl types do you work with?
All of them, from loose waves to tight coils, 2A through 4C. If you are not sure what your curl type is, that is fine too. We will figure it out together during your consultation.
Do I need a consultation before booking?
A consultation is included with every appointment. For a significant change, such as your first curly cut, a major color, or transitioning from heat-straightened to natural, we recommend starting with a consultation so we can plan the right approach.
